Our baby girl is here! Well, she's been here for almost 2 weeks now, but it has been a rough and busy beginning so I'm finally getting around to getting it on my blog.
Here is the story...
It was a different experience for all of us this time because she came 2 weeks early and caught us all off guard. This is because I had a chronic abruption of the placenta (it tore away from the uterus) about 2 weeks before she came and I was bleeding into the amniotic fluid. So she was swallowing my blood that whole time. The abruption caused me to have early contractions which is a good thing because the doctor said that she wouldn't have lasted much longer in there under those conditions.
Shaelynn Marie Willis was born on 2-7-08 at 5:27 PM. She weighed 7 lbs 4 oz and was 19 1/2 inches long.

She wasn't very responsive and had to have her mouth and nose suctioned and her stomach pumped right away because of all the blood in her body, but she started looking better right away. We had to stay in the hospital for 4 days and 3 nights because she tested positive for Strep B and was Coombs positive (mom and baby have mismatched blood types) then she was extremely jaundice so she had to have phototherapy. They finally discharged us, but we had to stay in Mesa and keep her on a Biliblanket light to treat her jaundice for 2 more days and take her to have her tested and see the doctor everyday. Then when they finally said we could go home we were only here for 3 days and her billiruben level spiked and the doctor ordered us back to Mesa to be close to the hospital. She had to go back on the light for 4 more days and had more tests done and the doctor said we could bring her home!
She has another appointment in a couple days to check her billiruben level, but her doctor said he thinks she's over the hump. We sure hope so! We haven't gotten to hold her and bond with her as much as we would have liked to because when she is on or under the light you can't hold her. She only gets to nurse and get her diaper changed and then it's back to the light. Poor Ben was very sick when she was born so he tried to keep his distance so he wouldn't get her sick. He didn't even get to hold her for the first 24 hrs. :(

Well, anyway, after all that we are all home and everyone seems to be doing fine. Shaelynn is eating, sleeping and filling her diapers really well and is quite alert when she’s awake. Allen and Charlie are great big brothers. Allen is a huge help and Charlie likes to think that he is too. He always wants to hold her, give her a bottle, pacifier, some of his food, his toys, etc... Ben is already wrapped around her little finger. He calls her "Little Princess". I am so thrilled to have a little girl. We have already talked about what we are going to do together when she gets older. We're going to build furniture together and sell it so she can earn money for EFY! Heck with making and selling Father's Day cakes! We will also be doing a lot of shopping together! But for now, I just like to sit and hold her and make up for the last 2 weeks of not getting to. I'm not complaining, though because she wasn't scheduled to get here until the day after tomorrow! So, I guess we all got 2 more weeks with her. What a deal!
Okay, I guess that's all for now.
