Our Alaskan Cruise

What a FUN and ADVENTUROUS week we've had! (Well, two weeks! But I'm still working on the first.)
First, the kitties are doing great and Shaelynn will finally hold them. She was afraid of them because of their claws at first, but now she is okay with them. I'm sure they wish she was still afraid. She hugs so tight and right around the neck. 5-18-09See! And she just loves it.
Charlie loves them too and he's usually pretty good with them until he decides they need to learn to fly! By the way, this is the last picture with a Binky!
Here is Max. He wanted to feed himself and this is how he did it. Since then I've learned that kittens should not eat on their backs, so I made him stop. 5-19-09
So, Ben, me, Kolette, and Kristen were able to take a cruise to Alaska! We dropped the kids off at Grandma Parkes' house and she watched them all week for us.
Here we are the first day on our balcony. 5-23-09

I'm looking through binoculars.
This other ship was right in front or behind us the whole time. It was a Princess.
Monday, 5-24-09, was the only dress up day. We went around and took a bunch of pictures because we were at sea and there's not much else to do if you don't drink or gamble and it was too cold to swim.
This is the only good one out of about 90 shots because we were goofing around just a little.
Awe.
So, this is at a bar. Wee!
Ban was so good about letting me have my fill of taking pictures. I think I took around 450 during the cruise. (I love this face)
Here we are in the library.
On Tuesday, 5-25-09, we were in Ketchikan and we took a shore excursion and went fishing for King Salmon. This is Ben and Captain "Big B." He was a riot.

Me standing around doing nothing while Kristen puts out hers
And Ben
And then we trolled around for 3 hours like this. Hard work, huh? We did pull them up once to clean the algae off.
While we waited and visited we had canned smoked salmon with crackers and cookies.
We also spotted a bunch of bald eagles and took a lot of pictures.

About 30 minutes before we were supposed to go back Ben got a bite so we all got really excited, but when he reeled it in we saw that it was only about 12 inches long and they have to be 28 inches to keep. That was the only bite we had that day, but it was fun and really pretty. In Ketchikan some of the streets turn into stairs because the land is so steep. Here's an example.
This is a cool carving that was at the port in Ketchikan.
The next day, Wednesday, we were in Juneau. We took a kayaking excursion in a lake that was near a glacier. (It's to the right of Ben's ear.) 5-26-09
All suited up and ready to go
Juneau
Buying Kettle corn in Juneau
Ben wanted to get a picture with a totem pole, so we stopped at every one we saw to take a picture.
This is an anchor that was at the harbor in Juneau.
When we sailed that day we went by a bunch of icebergs.
They are blue because air gets trapped in there.
We were supposed to go by Tracy Arm, But there was too much Ice so we went up to Dawes Glacier and back. The mountains all had tons of waterfalls. See them?
This is Dawes Glacier in the background. It was so cool to get to see. Some VIPs got to get in a smaller boat and go right up to it. We didn't have the $15,000 lying around though. (Their suites were also 5,600 square feet.)
But we had a nice view from the balcony anyway.
On Wednesday, 5-27-09, we were in Skagway and we rented a van and drove up the Klondike Highway into the Yukon Territory. We met a nice couple at the rental place who weren't able to get a car because they were all gone so we invited them to joined us. they were great traveling friends.
This is the train we were thinking of taking, but we got to see way more from the van and plus we were able to stop and take pictures whenever we wanted.
This is a frozen lake, so pretty.
As we got further into Canada it was warmer.
It was still cold enough for coats, though. This is an engine from the gold rush in Carcross.
We stopped at a little bakery to get some cinnamon rolls. This was one of the signs outside.
And another. (Don't we look like we're starving?)
And another.
This is Emrald lake. It's the same color as Havasupai because it has limestone in it too, only this limestone was ground down by glaciers.
On the way back we found Santa! He was cruising on the Princess. We put in some requests for the kids and he said he'd see what he could do.
So pretty.
Had to get a pict with the sign!
And this sign as well!
This is the town behind us, only 800 people.
We walked up to a waterfall and this was on the way.
Waterfall!
This is the semitary.
We went to the town museum and saw a bear!
Next stop was in Prince Rupert, Canada. This is another totem we had to get a picture with. 5-28-09We caught up with our friends from the drive, Robin and Sue.
We went to the town museum there too. It was cool.
Canadian mail boxes
and the dock
We shared our soda with a tired sailor.
On the way back to the ship.
This is the museum and town behind us.
Last morning on the ship. We got off in Seattle.
We went to Pioneer square and took the underground tour, which I reccomend. It was neato. This is Chief Seattle, whom the city is named after.
And another totem.
My new favorite place, Rocky Mountain Choclate Factory.
This is the beginning of the underground tour.
30 square blocks of Seattle was built up to raise the town up from the tide flats, which created passage ways under the sidewalks. This is some of the rubble that gas been thrown in the underground passages.
Pioneer Bldg, obviously.
We went to Pike Place Market and met up with my friend, Craig from Taylor, and Kristen's friend from Seattle, but I forgot to take a picture with him.
That's a monkfish.
The famous fish market where they throw your fish.
This is our ship leaving on the next cruise.Space NeedleMt RaineerThat night we got to go to the temple. Good times.
We had dinner at PF Changs. Yumm.
We all love food!
This is the lobby of the historic Mayflower Hotel, which Craig got us reservations at and a discount too! Thanks, Craig! 5-31-09
Leaving Seattle.
Flying home we stopped in Utah and then on to Phoenix. This is part of the salt flats.
The best part of leaving, for me, is always coming back. Charlie was happy to see us.
As was Shaelynn.
Next morning we were off to Ajo. 6-1-09 Bye-bye grandma!
Hugs!
More Hugs! And Allen was off to a week of scout camp.
They read and slept the whole way home.
June 2, 2009 means Charlie is 3 yrs old! Happy birthday, big boy! We celebrated his birthday on Saturday, the6th, but that is in the next blog.
Now we're off to Havasupai, but that will also be in a later blog!
TTFN!

I love this post, what amazing pictures. Soooo pretty!!! I saw your Mom with all the kids in Taylor at the Cabin on Memorial Day weekend. They all went on the wagon ride and she said that you don't know how easy you have it with your oldest boy there to help you. It was funny! It was so fun to see all your kids, would have been funner to see the whole family but I'd would of rather been on a cruise too.
